Sapphire Valley offers skiing, snowboarding, and tubing runs. The on-site learning center slope has certified instructors to teach beginners the fundamentals, and a multi-lane, 500-foot snow tubing run.
Hatley Pointe is the newest ski resort in Western North Carolina and peaks at an elevation of 4,700 feet in the shadow of Big Bald Mountain. It's always snowing here, since they make their own snow with updated snowmaking capabilities. There are 15 lighted runs with a double lift, a quad lift, and 2 surface lifts over 54 acres of skiable terrain. Learn to ski or snowboard with the Snow Sports School instructors. After a day of skiing or boarding choose from a range of dining experiences, from upscale American cuisine at Smoke & Timber to fresh brews at Steeps Coffee, plus wood-fired pizza from Peaks & Pies. With a peak elevation of 5,400 feet, everything you need for a day of fun in the snow is at Cataloochee. From beginner ski trails to black diamond courses, a terrain park with stunt equipment, to Tube World, just a few miles down the road from the slopes, there is plenty to do. No snow? No problem! They make their own snow as soon as temperatures allow. The ski area’s full-service rental department offers ski and snowboard equipment, including jackets, pants, and helmets, plus a state-of-the-art boot drying system. Open early November – late March.
